Conference hunting

According to The Monitor, UTPA President Robert S. Nelson has confirmed that the school will be making a presentation to the Southland Conference March 7 in Katy to seek league affiliation. The SLC would then need to make a decision on whether or not to give an invitation to UTPA, which would likely come later this year. In 2005, the SLC chose Central Arkansas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi instead of UTPA. If UTPA were to join the SLC, it would mean a shot at automatic invitation to the NCAA tournaments in men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
