Mixed results from Louisiana
The Broncs (5-8) started on a bad note in New Orleans at the Tulane Classic, loosing to Tulane, but completed the tournament 1-1 after beating Alabama State.
The University of Texas- Pan American men’s basketball team lost the first game of the Tulane Classic Wednesday against the host school 76-49.
The Broncs kept a close game in the first half, but the Green Wave took the lead as the first half ended 30-24.
During the second, Tulane hit two thirds of their shots and kept the Broncs’ defense at bay to win the game.
Both Aaron Urbanus and Brandon Provost led the Broncs with 10 points each.
The Broncs won their final game of the Tulane Classic against Alabama State University 77-70 in overtime.
With four minutes remaining in the second half, the Broncs tasked 50-45, but the Broncs fueled an 11-0 run to make it 56-50 with 43 seconds left. After trading some more baskets, the score was tired at 62.
The Broncs hit all five of their field goal attempts and three of their four free throw attempts to beat the Hornets.
Provost led the Broncs with 25 points, putting him 15 points short of scoring his 1,000th career point (the 23rd player in program history).
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
Senior Urbanus was named part of the Tulane Classic All-Tournament Team, add voted by the head coaches of participating teams.
Urbanus averaged .500 (11-for-22) from the field and .615 (8-for,13) from behind the arc, while averaging 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals.
