The UTPA Bronc women’s basketball team lost the season opener game to The University of Texas at San Antonio Friday 68-34 at the Convocation Center.
Senior guard Bianca Torre was the first Bronc to put points up on the board and broke the All-Time Leading Scorer record by one point. The Harlingen native didn’t add any other points to her record that night, making her career total 1,228.
The UTSA Roadrunners responded by going on a 20-3 run, the Broncs’ points being a result of free throws. The next two points from the Broncs also came from free throws, but Ce’Monay Newell soon responded with a pair of 3’s.
The Broncs pulled within 32-20 by the end of the half.
The second half was dominated by the Roadrunners who started with a 18-5 run, to make the score 50-25.
As hard as the Broncs battled at the end of the game, the Roadrunners never showed any signs of letting loose. Taking over the game from the beginning, winning 68-34.
